Heroes, Villains and Salsa!

Several months have passed since I last blogged about films. I didn't watch many during the summer, and then became lax with writing about them. I was even lax with posting this; I wrote it up in November and somehow didn't post it (yet I could have sworn that I did!) 

As usual, this is for a goal:

11. Brüno (2009)

Genre: Comedy

In a word: Graphic

In a sentence: Disgraced gay Austrian fashion guru attempts to reinvent himself and achieve worldwide fame in the shining lights of Los Angeles

Recommended: For those with a love of Sacha Baron Cohen's flamboyant characters and outrageous humour.

12. Tropic Thunder (2008)

Genre: Action/Comedy

In a word: Boom

In a sentence: The cast of a war film are attacked by a gang of drug dealers during the filming of scenes in a jungle--but they think it's all part of the film.

Recommended: For anyone who wants a laugh and is sick of war films.

 

13. St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold (2009)

Genre: Adventure/Comedy

In a word: Arrrr!

In a sentence: After discovering that Miss Fritton is the descendent of a legendary pirate, the St Trinian's girls attempt to steal a ring that will lead them to the lost treasure!

Recommended: For when you want something light-hearted and fun.

14. The Love Punch (2013)

Genre: Comedy

In a word: Theft

In a sentence: Divorced couple Richard and Kate set out to steal a diamond from the owner of Richard's company, in order to regain money rightfully owed to them and the company employees.

Recommended: If you enjoy seeing quality, hilarious adventures centred around characters who aren't still in high school!

15. Cuban Fury (2014)

Genre: Comedy

In a word: Salsa!

In a sentence: One-time salsa dancer Bruce wants to win his boss Julia's heart by stepping back into his dancing shoes, but his co-worker Drew also has Julia on his mind, and has no qualms about getting in Bruce's way.

Recommended: For anyone with a love of Nick Frost's films

16. Green Lantern (2011)

Genre: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi

In a word: Green

In a sentence: Test pilot Hal is chosen to bear an alien ring that gives him special powers and inducts him into a huge intergalactic team, where - driven by his feelings for his colleague Carol - he joins the fight against the evil Parallax

Recommended: For those desperate for a terribly cheesy and predictable comic book adaptation.

17. Withnail and I (1987)

Genre: Comedy/Drama

In a word: Misery

In a sentence: Withnail and Marwood, two unemployed actors escape their poky London flat to stay at Uncle Monty's country house in Penrith, where they find no food, unfriendly locals, endless rain and severe tests of friendship.

Recommended: If you want a slightly eccentric film about friendship and the late sixties.

18. X-Men: First Class (2011)

Genre: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi

In a word: Mutants

In a sentence: Using their mutant powers, Charles and Erik recruit other mutants and help them to hone their powers to assist the US government in preventing the start of World War III.

Recommended: If you're a fan of heroes with well-fleshed background stories and want to get into a multi-movie franchise of comic book adaptations.

19. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Genre: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi

In a word: Shiiing!*

In a sentence: Follows the story of the immortal mutant Logan/Wolverine, from his childhood 200 years ago through to his participation in wars and the experiment that made him even more indestructible, and his quest for vengeance against his old colonel, Stryker.

Recommended: For Wolverine fans, Hugh Jackman fans and Sci-Fi fans.

20. X-Men (2000)

Genre: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi

In a word: Mutants!

In a sentence: Mutant runaway Rogue encounters Logan (see above) and they end up at Charles Xavier's school for mutants, whilst Magneto has an evil plan in mind to prevent a war against mutants--a plan which needs Rogue's power. 

Recommended: If you remember the X-Men cartoons. See also the recommended section for previously mentioned X-Men films ;)

Alright, so I utterly love the X-Men films; the only one I haven't seen is Days of Future Past (one day, I will have the DVD!) I grew up watching the cartoon, and Rogue and Wolverine were always my favourites!

 

*Sound of metal claws slicing stuff up ;)

I'm so slow in posting about this pile of films that I already have another ten films to write about! So I'll be making another films post soon, it seems. Another little step closer to 100...
